Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology
Knowing the human body, the way it works with its organs and the way they loose their balance is fundamental for a Yoga teacher that aims at leading his/her students towards the achievement of a good psichical and phisical wellness.
Even if Yoga is not only phisical practice, a sound study of the human body is the base to achieve a state of deep interior serenity.
Yoga practices
Yoga's positions (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama) and purification practices (kriya), are the powerful means to find phisical wellnes and to mantain it, especially when our consciousness of those subjects, related to specific effects of each Yoga exercise, allows the creation of therapeutics seqences.Ayurveda
Visa science, according to ancient Indian medicine. To use Yoga in an effective way, or as a mean dedicated to maintain perfect psico - phisical balance, Ayurveda is a great help. Asana sequences can be created depending on one's constitution, if we know the fundamental principles of Ayurveda.
The integration of Ayurveda with anatomy and human physiology, leads the theacher a step forward in the management of his/her students pshyco-phisical development.
Meditation Techniques
During the centuries around Yoga and more generally in the Oriental spritual disciplines, many Meditation techniques have made appearance and have been studied and developed. They usually differ according to the tradition or the cultural area in which they made their appearance. This topic is planned to give students the common bases to the most worldspread Meditation techniques, and the teacher will go deeper in those strictly connected to Yoga.
Along with theory, a lot of time will be spent practicing Meditation with the theacher's guide and supervision.
Philosophy and Oriental psychology
In Yoga's history we find several stages with different schools of thinking trying to explain and motivate what is Nature and the sense of existence.
To fully understand Yogic philosophy we must be able to master Yoga tchniques, with the realization of its true essence and goals. The person that follows a Yogic life style will be able to recognize clearly what kind of practice or syle is suitable to the fundamental principles of this ancient discipline.
Studying Oriental Philosphy we will discover that Yogis and Asian wisemen knew very well the aspects of human mind that nowaday we study in psychology.
Traditional Scriptures
The study of classic Yoga literature is indispensable for those who want to become teacher of this discipline.
We will study books like Yoga Sutra, Hata Yoga Pradipika, Gheranda Samhiita, Bhagavad Giita, Upanishad, etc. and a they will be compared with the historical period during which they have been written. This approach will allow students to go deeper in their knowledge of Yoga and meditation.
Sanscrit
No worries :-) we don't want you to learn to speak or write Sanscrit!
We believe, however, that an overview of the basic principles and sound of the most ancient language can make students learn faster and deeper the ancient Yoga books and can help in learning by heart the name of asanas and the most important Yoga practices.
Today the practice of Yoga is expanding in the Western world and more often than ever the asanas or the exercises are renamed along with the creation of new variations. Knowing Sanscit key words can help greatly in orientation or in the creation of a peronal style.
Asana, Pranayama, Mudra and Bhanda
This represents the practic section: asans, sequences, breathing exercises and control of vital energy, purification practices and phisical development, etc...
Much time, in a Yoga Teacher Training is spent on practice. However the detailed study of each exercise is done with the analysis of its benefits, the common mistakes to be avoid, the rules ofr a correct practice and other theoric notions that will be easely understood each time we 'use' our body as a laboratory where we can make our own research and practice.
Relaxation Techniques
Yoga Nidra, is the section dedicated to relaxation techniques and to the development of our capacities to bring our onw vital rythms it the ideal condition that allows our body and mind to regenerate and find a deep balance. There are many Yoga techniques dedicated to this goal.
Communication and active listening
The relationship with our students is very important to create a Yoga course where armonous growing and serene learning are the dey aspects.
It often happens that a Yoga teacher becomes a figure we feel confident to ask for advice or valid suggestions on all aspects of life. For example tudents may ask how to win stress or to have back their happiness, lost because of an irregular lifstyle.
Generally it is not very useful to give advices. It is much more useful and efficacious to listen actively, to give to
our student the sensationa that he/she is accepted right the way he/sh is and transmit human warmth.s
Umanistic psychology notions are useful especially if accompanied with practice and experience, gained with exercises of empathic listening and communication
Ethics and deontology
In the Yoga world, especially in Western countries, there's a deontological code in use, based on the traditional principles of this discipline. Part of the training will be dedicated to the study of those principles and on the teaching aspects that can be object of law regulation (Italian and or regional).
Tuscany region, for example, has just approved a law that rules the 'bio natural disciplines' and, among them, there's Yoga.
Organization and managament of Yoga classes and centers
To teach Yoga, it is necessary to acquire the ability to form a class, to create a cultural center and to manage other activities linked to one's professional growth. It may happen that a Yogi or a Yogini do not feel at ease when they have to deal with administration, logistics, accounting, bueauocracy...
To learn valid strategies and some 'tricks' to make this aspcet ligher and functional can be stimulating and sometimes also amusing.
